Several years ago, the readers of Golf Digest gave Cougar Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort a near-perfect rating in the magazine’s annual “Best Places to Play” poll. Designed by Gary Player, the par-72 course is challenging, but in general it plays easier than it looks. Cougar Point offers short and long par-4s, great risk and reward par-5s and scenic and challenging par-3s. It’s a compact, walkable and highly enjoyable course.
The dreamy setting alone is worth a visit. Several Cougar Point holes feature panoramic views of the gorgeous Kiawah River and surrounding marshland. Framed by stately oaks, Hole 11 is one of the most photographed greens on the island. In fact, Director Robert Redford used Hole 11 in several scenes of his famous golf movie, “The Legend of Bagger Vance.”
